Period Dignity Campaign
Our campaign for access to free period products for all staff and visitors in our workplace
Campaign by Unite Parliamentary branch members for free and accessible period products to be provided in the workplace.
Everyone should have period dignity. It should be the norm for employers to provide period products in the workplace.
Members have been running a campaign on the Parliamentary estate to get quality period products made widely available, free of charge, in toilets across the workplace for staff and visitors to use.
We are pleased that period products are now available in 27 locations across the Parliamentary estate: https://parlinet.parliament.uk/working-here/health-safety-wellbeing/phws/phws-support/phws-free-period-products/
Following campaigning from branch members and staff groups across Parliament, we were informed by the House of Commons Accommodation Team that the provision at these locations has been made permanent (following a trial). In response to a Written Question the House says “It is undertaking to widen this access to as many applicable toilets as possible”. https://questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-questions/detail/2023-12-07/5916
We will continue the campaign to get free period products in more locations.
If members would like to meet to discuss next steps for the campaign, please let us know at: becky.boumelha@parliament.uk
Please also let us know if there are other locations we should be asking for in the meantime.
